Juan de Congora was a wax-worker in Mexico city when he joined the colonists of 1693 with his wife Petronila de la Cueva, and their five children, Cristóbal, 20; María Gertrudis, 9; Grancisca, 6; Gregoria, 5; and Juan José, 7 months old. Juan died in Mexico City before starting out, but his widow undertook the journey to New México with her family.
