Juan de Gongora, a wax-worker of Mexico City, joined the colonists of 1693 with his wife, Petronila de la Cueva, and their five children: Christobal, twenty, Maria Gertrudis, nine, Francisca, six, Gregoria, five and Juan Jose, seven months old.

Juan died in Mexico City before starting out, but his widow undertook the journey to New Mexico with her family.
