The family bearing the name taken from Little Stanney is Stannich or Stannie. Little Stanney is not mentioned in the Doomsday Survey, but is included with Great Stanney. The family settled in Little Stanney as early as 1200. During the reighn of Edward II, the estate became vested in the sole heiress of David de Stannich. She married David de Bunbury, and both the manor and township remained in the possession of their descendants.
