John, youngest son of Henry II, King of England and Eleanor of Aquitaine, was born 24 Dec 1166 at Beaumont Palace, Oxford. He was known as "Lackland" or "Softwsord." He was given the titled of King of Ireland in 1177, and created Count of Mortain in 1189. He was also styled Earl of Gloucester in the right of his first wife, and became King of England and Duke of Normandy on 27 May 1199, after the death of his brother, Richard I. John's first wife was the daughter of William, Earl of Gloucester, but she died young and childless. John's second wife was Isabella, daughter of Aymer Taillefer, comté de Angoulême and of Alice de Courtenay, daughter of Peter de Courtenay, the son of Louis VI, King of France.

Richard, 1209-1272, married Isabella, daughter of William Marshal, Earl of Pembroke, by Isabella, daughter of Richard FitzGilbert de Clare

John had a relationship with Lady de Warenne, daughter of Hamelin Plantagenêt Earl of Surrey and Isabel Heiress of Warenne.
