Hernán Martín Serrano came with the original Oñate colony of 1598. He was then forty years old, the son of Hernán Martín Serrano and a native of Zacatecas, tall of stature, sparse-bearded and pockmarked. He is designated in the 1597 muster-roll as the Sargento of the Expedition.
