• Dates & Events. 523 Jonathan Piper, the son of Nathaniel, was born at Ipswich, Massachusetts in 1672 and died at Concord, Massachusetts on 11 May 1753. He married first, at Ipswich, 7 May 1695, Sarah Leach of Boxford, Massachusetts, who died at Ipswich 8 May 1700; and secondly, in 1700, four months after the death of his first wife, Alice Darby of Berverly, Massachusetts who was born at Marblehead, Massachusetts, and died at Concord on 23 Apr 1758.
He lived at Ipswich as a farmer until 1731. In 1723 he, with Samuel Smith and John Darby, leased the farm at Ipswich known as New Marsh Farm of 1200 acres belonging to the heirs of Nathaniel Saltonstall of Haverhill. In 1731, he moved to Concord, where on 6 Mar 1731, he bought the farm of Thomas Wheeler, Sr. and Thomas Wheeler, Jr. in the southwesterly part of the town for "1200 pounds passable money." On the same day he also bought other land of Robert Cummins and 6 Oct he bought 80 acres of Rebecca Prescott, widow of Jonathan, for 100 pounds. Other real estate was afterwards purchased.
His will, dated 15 Feb 1749, was settled by his son Joseph without being entered in Probate Court.

• Background Information. 149 Jonathan Piper, son of Nathaniel Piper was born in Ipswich, Massachusetts, about 1671-1672. He was a farmer and lived there until 1731. In 1723, he and Samuel Smith, and John Darby, leased the New Marsh farm of twelve hundred acres in Ipswich, then owned by the heirs of Nathaniel Saltonstall, of Haverhill. In 1731, he removed to Concord, Massachusetts, buying March 6, of that year, of Thomas Wheeler, Sr. and Thomas Jr., their farm in the southwesterly part of Concord "for 1,200 pounds passable money: and on the same day he bought land of Robert Cummings. 6 Oct 1731, he bought eighty acres of Rebecca Prescott, widow of Jonathan Prescott, for a hundred pounds. He bought other land later. He died in Concord on 11 May 1752, leaving a will dated 15 Feb 1749. His son Joseph was the executor.
He married, first, on 7 May 1695, Sarah Leech of Boxford who died in Ipswich on 6 May 1700. His second wife was Alice Darby, of Beverly who died 23 Apr 1758.
