• Background Information. 141
Stephen Longspée, third son of William Longspée, married Emeline, the widow of Hugh de Lacy, sometime between 8 Feb 1242/3 and 14 Dec 1244. Emeline was the daughter and coheir of Walter de Ridelisford, lord of Bray and his wife Annora. Stephen Longspée had been at sometime Seneschal of Gascony and Justiciar of Ireland, and he died before his wife, Emeline who was living 18 May 1275 and died shoretly before 9 Jul 1276.

Stephen and Emeline were the parents of two daughters, Ela and Emeline. Ela married Robert la Zouche and died before her mother, leaving a son Alan, aged 8 and coheir to his grandmother in 1266, who was summoned to Parliment in 1299 as Lord Zouche. Emeline, was the younger of the two daughters and she married Maurice, second son of Maurice Fitz Gerald, second lord of Offaly, and was aged twenty-four and more in 1276.

Emmeline married, as her first husband, Hugh de Lacy, Earl of Ulster, who died in 1242, but had no issue by him. She married, as her second husband, Stephen de Longespée, the third son of William de Longespée, Earl of Salibsbury. Stephen also became a justiciar of Ireland. He died before 23 Jan 1274/5. Emmeline referred to herself as the "Countess of Ulster," even after hse second marriage. She died in 1276, leaving by Stephen de Longespée, two daughters named Emmeline and Ela.

Emmeline married Stephen de Longespée Earl of Salisbury, Justicair of Ireland, son of William "Long Sword" Longespée 3rd Earl of Salisbury and Ela de Salisbury.1129 (Stephen de Longespée Earl of Salisbury, Justicair of Ireland was born about 1216 in Sutton, Northampton, England and died before 23 Jan 1274-1275 in Sutton, Northampton, England.)
