Gómez Díaz is named in his father's 940 donation. He was conde de Saldaña from abt. 959. He confirmed two donations to the monastery of Sahagún 26 Apr 960, and donations 11 May 971, 11 May 976, 16 Jun 977, 1 Sep 986, 27 Nov 986 and 5 Dec 986.
Although there appears to be no direct proof that all these relate to the Conde de Saldaña, the documents refer to other individuals who appear to be members of his family, in particular those of 27 Nov 986 (made by his supposed sister Guntrodo and brother-in-law Ablavel Godestéiz) and 1 Sep 986 (made by his supposed brother Osorio Díaz). He acquired control over Liébana in the 970's.
