Boleslav succeeded his father in about 967. He founded Lundenburg Abbey in 993. He married a woman of unknown parentage named Hemma. The Chronica Boemorum names "Hemmam" as wife of "secundus Bolezlaus dux", without giving her origin, and records her death in 1006 in a later passage [Cosmæ Pragensis Chronica Boemorum I.32 and 39, MGH SS IX, pp. 55 and 62].
