Æthelswytha became the wife of Baldwin II, count of Flanders, who was the son of Baldwin I and Judith, daughter of Charles the Bald, widow of Æthelwulf. Baldwin II was a turbulent lord, quarreled and fought with the king. His son by Æthelswytha, daughter of Alfred, was Arnold I, count of Flanders.
