• Background Information: 252 Cristóbal de Tafoya Altamirano came to New Mexico after the reconquest inm 1695, with his brother Juan. Another brother, Antonio, also came to settle in New Mexico.
He was thirty-four years old when he left El Paso del Norte for New Mexico with his brother Antonio early in 1695. They were both soldiers, born in El Real de Talpujagua. Cristóbal married Isabel de Herrera in 1698.
In 1718, he made his last will at Santa Cruz, in ehich he named his parents and birthplace. He declared two legitimate children by Isabel de Herrera: Juan and Antonio; and also two natural daughters; Antonia Tofoya Jaramillo, wife of Sebastián Varela, and Tertrudis Tafoya Ruiz. He also had reared a nephew, Cristábal, son of his brother Antonio. He was still living the following year when he brought suit against Diego Archuleta for beating his wife Isabel.
His two sons married into the Juan Gonzáles Bas family of Alamenda. Juan, age twenty-two, married Antonia Gonzáles in 1716, and Antonio, born 16 May 1700 married her sister Prudencia in 1722.

Cristóbal married Isabel de Herrera, daughter of Juan de Herrera and Ana López del Castillo, on 17 Feb 1698 in Santa Fé, Santa Fé, Nuevo Méjico, Nueva España.239 (Isabel de Herrera was born about 1675.)
