• Family Background. 806
Delves Hall, 31 Edward I, was the seat of John de Delves. His son, Richard, was constable of Heleigh castle. Richard had two sons, John and Henry. SirJohn was one of the four esquires who attended James, lord d'Audely at the battle of Poitiers, where they highly distinguished themslves. He died without issue 11 Richard II (1387), and was succeeded by his brother, Sir Henry, whose son and heir, Sir John Delves, 16 Richard II, was a knight in parliament for Sraffordshire county. From him descended Sir John Delves, who was in favor with King Henry VI, and was slain at the battle of Tewkesbury, 1471. His son was beheaded two days afterwards, by Edward IV. Sir Thomas Delves, the last male of the family was created baronet. His only daughter and heir, Elizabeth, married Sir Brian Broughton.
