Charles Cawley's Medieval Lands, Gisele de Bourgogne was most likely the daughter of Guillaume de Bourgogne and his wife Etiennette since her daughter Adelaide, wife of Louis VI "le Gros" king of France, is named as the nice of Pope Calixtus. "This is corroborated by "Guido Viennensis archiepiscopus" (later Pope Calixtus II) addressing a letter to "nepoti suo Amedeo comiti" (Amédée III Comte de Savoie, son of Gisèle by her first marriage) dated [circa 1115] [Vienne Saint-André-le-Bas, Chevalier, U. (1869) Cartulaire de l'abbaye de Saint-André-le-Bas de Vienne, Collection de cartularies dauphinois Tome I (Vienne) Chartarium Viennensium 72, p. 281]." Gisele de Bourgogne's first husband was Humbert II "le Renforcé: comté de Maurienne et de Savoie, son of Amedee II and his wife Jeanne.

Gisèla married Rainer Marchese di Montferrat, son of Gugliemo IV, Marchese di Montferrat and Unknown. (Rainer Marchese di Montferrat died in 1137.)

Gisèla next married Umberto II "el gordo" conde de Savoie Susa, Turin y Maurienne, son of Amadeus II de Maurienne Comte de Savoie, Marquis de Italy and Jeanne de Genève. (Umberto II "el gordo" conde de Savoie Susa, Turin y Maurienne was born in Moûtiers and died before 14 Oct 1103 in Moûtiers.)
