Humphrey Hastang was among the baron who rebelled against King John and had his lands seized. His lands were restored in 1 Henry III. According to Burke, his father was Atrop de Hastang and his son was the first Robert de Hastang.

Chebsey, as it appears in Domesday Survey, was the land of one Humfridus, who held the same of Henry de Ferrers, and not long after, about the time of henry II, Eutropius de Hastang was lord of Chesbsey as heir to his mother Maud. Halfhide, Shawford, Norton and Walton juxta Ellenhall, from whom it descended to Robert de Hastang, who had issue, Robert, who had issue, John, William and Richard, all knights.
