--The "Dictionary of Royal Lineage" titles him the count of Vardesque and Macon.
--John T. Appleby, in his book, "The Troubled Reign of King Stephen", however calls him the count of Burgundy.
-He perished gloriously fighting the infidels at Ramleh in the Holy Land alongside STEPHEN, COUNT OF BLOIS AND CHARTRES, in 1102. ¹¹⁶

Étienne married Beatrix de Lorraine, daughter of Gerard Duc de Lorraine and Hedwig.
