Sir Robert Fitz Payn, of Llanvair Discoed in Nether Gwent, Okeford Fitzpaine, Chelborough, Worth, and Wraxall, Dorset, Staple Fitzpaine, Cheddon Fitzpaine, Cary Fitzpaine, and Bridghampton, Somerset, Poole Keynes and Stourton, Wilts, &c., son and heir of Sir Robert Fitz Payn, of the same (who died shortly before 27 April 1281) , by Roberge, his wife. In Jul 1277 he proffered service---himself and three others---pro patre suo infirmo ut dicit, against Llewelyn. He was aged 26 and more, or 27, at his father's death. The King took his homage, and he had livery of his father's lands, 27 May 1281. He was with the King in the Army of Wales in 1282, at the battle of Falkirk, 22 Jul 1298, and in the Army of Scotland in 1300, 1303, and 1306, being at the siege of Carlaverock in Jul 1300, and Marshal of the King's Army citra mare Scocle in 1303. He was summoned for Military Service from 24 May 1282 to 30 Jun 1314, to attend the King at Salisbury, 26 Jan 1296/7, to attend the Coronation., 18 Jan 1307/8, to a Council, 8 Jan 1308/9, and to Parliament from 6 Febr 1298/9 to 24 Oct 1314, by writs directed Roberto filio Pagani, whereby,he is held to have become Lord Fitz Payn. As Robertus filius Pagani dominus de Launver, he took part in the Barons' Letter to the Pope, 12 Feb 1300 /1. He was appointed Constable of Corfe Castle, 20 Mar 1304/5, during pleasure.

Sir Robert Fitz Payn,married Isabel, sister and coheir of Sir Richard de Clifford, and daughter of Sir John de Clifford, both of Frampton-on-Severn, co. Gloucester. In 1305 John de Maundeville granted the manor of Marshwood and the hundred of Whitchurch, Dorset, to him and Isabel his wife, and his heirs. On 12 Mar 1307/8 the King granted him the custody of the manors of Stogursey and Rodway, and the hundred of Cannington, Somerset, then in the King's hand.

Sir Robert Fitz Payn, was Constable of Winchester Castle, 16 March 1307/8 to 15 May 1314. Steward of the King's Household, 11 Mar 1307/8 to 14 Dec 1310. He was sent, with Otes de Graunson and others, on a mission to the Pope, in March 1308 /9. On 9 Feb 1309/10 the King granted him the manor of Norton St. Walery, Hants, for life, but on 16 Sep 1312 gave him, in its stead, the manor of Kingsbury and the hundred of Horethorne, &c., Somerset, also for life.

Sir Robert Fitz Payn, was appointed Keeper of the Forest South of Trent, 7 Dec 1311, during pleasure. In May 1313 he accompanied the King to France. He died 22 Aug 1315. On 18 Oct 1315 his widow had livery of the manors which she and her husband had held jointly, her fealty being respited. She was living in 13I9.

Robert married Isabella de Clifford, daughter of John de Clifford and Margery Hereward.141 (Isabella de Clifford was born about 1254 in Frampton-on-Severn, Gloucestershire, England and died aftert 1319 in England 141.)
