He was the son of Iaroslava "the Wise" Grand Prince of Kiev" and his wife, Ingigerd. Isiaslav and Gertrude were the parents of Sviatopolk, christened Michael, Grand Prince of Kiev. ¹⁶⁰

Iziaslav was the son of Iaroslav "the wise" Grand Prince of Kiev and his second wife Ingigerd Olafsdottir of Sweden. The Primary Chronicle records the birth of Izyaslav "a second son" to Vladimir in 1024 [Russian Primary Chronicle (1973), 1024, p. 135]. He married Gertruda of Poland, daughter of Mieszko II Lambert King of Poland and his wife Richeza. [Baumgarten (1927), p. 9, citing chron. russes.
