Sir Richard Vernon, Knight, son of Sir Richard de Vernon, knight, baron of Shipbrooke, as heir of his brother, married, as his 1^st wife, Alice, the widow of William de Buklylegh, of Chedle, 4 Richard II, who died 9 Richard II. Sir Richard was beheaded at Shrewsbury, about 1403, Inq. 4 Henry IV. Sir Richard de Vernon and Alice had a son who was also named Sir Richard Vernon.

The elder Sir Richard married a second time to Elizabeth, daughter of Sir Piers de Malbank, who was a window in 1418, when she presented to Davenham. She remarried John Whitmore of Thurstanton.
