Robert de Welles, lord of Welles, son and heir of Adam de Welles was born 1 Jan 1296/7 at Blatherwycke in the great chamber by the hall in the manor of his grandfather, Sir John Engaine, and baptized in the church of the Holy Trinity there. He had two younger brothers, Adam and John. During his minority he was the ward of Gilbert de Clare, Earl of Gloucester and Hertford. He married Maud de Clare. He succeeded his granmother, Isabel, shortly before 5 Jan 1314/5. He was given sesin of his lands on 9 Feb 1318/19. He was summoned againsts the Scots in 1419, and served at the siege of Berwick on Aug-Sep 1319. He died shortly before 29 Aug. 1329 at age 23, and the family estates went to his brother Adam de Welles.

Robert married Maud de Clare, daughter of Thomas de Clare Lord of Thomond and Juliane Fitz Maurice.260 (Maud de Clare was born about 1285 in Bunratty Castle, Thomond, Clare, Ireland and died on 4 Mar 1367-24 May 1237 in England 141.)
