• Background Information. 910 By a charter dated 1239, Sir Robert de Strickland is shown to already be a knight and in possession of the entire Great Strickland estate less than three years after Walter de Strickland's death, and over elven years prior to the death of his older brother Adam. Great Strickland had been part of his mother's inheritance, and Sir Robert as a younger son would be likely to have inherited his mother's estaes. Sir Robert's brother Adam had never been styled "de Stirkland", but usually as Adam filius Walteri.
Robert married Sister of William de Genellestand.
