Sir William Mainwaring of Over Pever, was the younger son of Sir Roger Mainwaring of Warmincham. Roger gave his son William, Over Pever as a gift. The children of William and his unknown wife were William, son and heir;Thomas, to whom his father gave Fodon, in Over-Perver; Benedict; Guy; and Roger, whose son William married Margaret, daughter of Roger Toft of Toft.

Sir William Mainwaring was the heir to his older brother Sir Thomas Mainwaring. Despite this, Sir William kept Over Peover as his chief residence of the family. William had a daughter named Maud, and three sons. Roger, his eldest, married Chrtiana de Bircheles or Birtles, but he died in his father's lifetime. The family estates went to Roger's son William who was living in 1325/5, who was married to mary, daughter of Henry Davenport.
