• Background Information. 1405
Sir Thomas de Strickland, knight, married Cecilia de Welles, daughter of Robert de Welles by Maud de Clare, heiress of Thomas de Clare and widow of Robert Lord Clifford. Thomas de Clare was the son of Richard 6th Earl of Hertford. In the 31st year of Edward III, Roger Lord de Clifford assigned to Sir Thomas Strickland and to Hugh Dela-Course, in trust, all his lands in England and Ireland and also the reversion of the lands, of which his mother Isaella de Berkeley, Lady Clifford was possed.

Sir Thomas made a will in 1376. His daughter Catherine married John de Ross of Kendal Castle, and assigned to her father the "Wardship" and "Marriage" of her daughter Elizabeth de Ross. This Elizabeth de Ross was married to William del Parr, knight of Kendal Castle.

Sir Thomas Strickland entered into an agreement with Ranolph de Darce, Lord of Gilsland, that his son and heir Walter should marry Margaret de Lathom. Sir Thomas died in the last year of the reign of Edward the Third.

Thomas married Cecilia de Welles, daughter of Sir Robert de Welles Knight, Baron on Welles and Maud de Clare 160,248.,1405 (Cecilia de Welles was born about 1315 in Well, Lincholnshire, England.)
