Adam Audley
General Notes:
The 1887 edition of Cokayne's Complete Peerage, p. 197, (AUDLEY) the father of Liulf (father of Adam who was father of Henry) was Adam who had a grant from Henry I of the manors of Aldithley, Tulke and half of Batterbey, Staffordshire, which belonged previously belonged to Gamul, according to the Domesday Servey. 846
In The Medieval England Ancestors of Robert Abell, 721 it says that this Liuf was the father of Liuf, father of Adam, father of Henry. The pedigrees of both the early ancestors house of Audley and Stanley are so varied and even have been claimed to be more legendary than real, so I used Cokayne's Complete Peerage, Vol. I, and The Medieval England Ancestors of Robert Abell as my sources since I've found them to more reliable.
According to the Norman People and Their Existing . . . , pp. 52-55, there was no Adam de Aldithley who came to England in 1066 with his sons Lydulph and Adam Aldithey. There is no place named Aldithley in France for one thing. Also, Henry de Stonely and his daughter are fabricated and never existed. ,780
According to the Second Edition of Cokayne's Complete Peerage, (Stanley), the is no blood connection between the Stanleys and the Audleys. The Stanleys were tenants of the Audleys. 141
