~Collin's Peerage of England, Vol. 9, p. 484, Robert de Ros, 3 Henry II, gave to the King a thousands marks for the libery of the lands of the late Walter Espec, of his mother's inheritance. He bestowed on the Kinights Templars his manor of Ribstane, where a preceptory was founded for such members of that fraternity as were stationed in the north. 900

~ Keats-Rohan, Domesday Descendants p. 671, Robert I de Ros of Helmsley, Yorkshire, son of Peter de Ros (d.a. 1130) and Adeline, daughter of Walter Espec, lord of Helmesly. Before 1158 he was constable to the count of Aumale. For several years from 1158 he was in charge of work on the king's castle at Scarborough. He died 1162/63, leaving a minor son Everardy by his wife Sibil de Valognes, who married secondly William II de Percy of Topcliffe, and thirdly Ralph d'Albini Brito. 1027

• Background Information. 141
Robert de Ros, was the brother and heir of Everard de Ros who died in 1153. They were both sons of Piers de Ros. Robert confirmed, sometime between 1147 and 1153, to Rievaulx the gift of his uncle Walter Espec, for the souls of his said uncle his father and his brother Everard. He was sometime constable, probably to the Count of Aumale, lord of Holderness. He attested a charter of count William about 1150, and to Henry II's charter to Scarborough, where, for several year starting in 1158, he was in charge of works at the King's castle. He married Sibyl de Valognes, and died in 1162/63.

Robert de Roos, of Hamlake, had livery of the lands of his inheritance from his mother, 3 Henry III. He was a benefactor of the Knights Templar. He married Sibyl de Valoins, sister or daughter of Philip de Valoins and died before 12 Henry II. His son and heir was Everard de Roos.
