Simon de Monfort, comté de Evreux et Seigneur de Montfort, brother and heir of Amauri, must have been a son of the second marriage of his father. Simón had Rochefort, which came through his father's second wife. Apparently he gave to his sister Agnes, as dowry, her mother's other estate, lordship of Gournay-sur-Marne. Being a vassal both of the Kings of France and of the King of England (as Duke of Normandy), his position was embarrassing when his two suzerains were at war in 1159. He adhered to England and handed over his castles at Rochefort, Montfort, and Épernon to Henry II, which forced Louis to make a truce by cutting his communications between Paris, Orleans, and Etampes. In 1173 Simon joined the revolt of the "young King", but was captured when the Count of Flanders took the castle of Aumale. In 1177, he attested the treaty of Ivry, and was with Henry II at Verneuil.

Simon de Monfort married Maud, whose parentage is unknown. He died 12 or 13 Mar 1180/1, and was buried in Evreux Cathedral. He left two sons, Amauri, who succeeded him as Count of Evreux in Normandy, who married Mabel, elder daughter and coheir of William, 2nd Earl of Gloucester; Simon, who succeeded him in the lordships of Montfort and Rochefort; and a daughter Bertrade, who married Hugh, Earl of Chester.
