Helias Gifford took up arms with the other Barons against King John, and in the 18th year of that Monarch's reign, all his lands were consisting of Wilts, Northampton, Goucester, Somerset, Dorset, Oxford, and Bersks, were given by order of the king to Bartholomew Peche, but restored by Henry III. By inquisition taken after the death of this feudal baron, 33 Henry III, he appears to have been possessed of the manor of Winterborne, Wiltshire, England, and that lordship was then the head of his barony. He died 33 Henry III.

Elias Giffard, of Brimsfield was under age at the time of his father's death in 1190. William Marshal, Earl of Pembroke held his wardship. He is mentioned in 1221, and died in 1249. His Inquisition post Mortem was held 33 Henry III.

• Mabel, m. Richard Dansy and had a son named Richard

His child with his second wife Alice Mautravers:
• John, aged 16 at his father's death in 1249, he married first Margaret Neville and second Matilda de Longespeé (widow and her original name was Clifford).

Helias married Alice Mautravers, daughter of Sir John Mautravers Knight, of Lytchett and Unknown.¹⁴¹ (Alice Mautravers was born in 1206 in Matravers, Dorset, England.)
