, or de Clare was the son of Gilbert de Clare, by Alice, daughter of Hugh, Count of Clermont. Baldwin and Adeline, daughter of Richard de Rollos were the parents of Emma, wife of Hugh Wac; and Rose, wife of William de Bussey. Children of Rose and William de Bussey were Bartholomew, Walter, Cecily and Maud.

Essendine passed to Rose's daughter Cecily, wife of John de Builli, son of Richard de Builli founder of Roche Abbey. Cecily had two daughters, Joan the wife of Thomas Gravenel, and Idonea the wife of Robert de Vipont [Maitland, loc. cit.; Blore, op. cit. 14]. Essendine went to Idonea, and she and her husband had livery of the lands in 1213.
