bullet  General Notes:

According to the Southworth Genealogy, Alice Houghton was the mother of William Stanley, son and heir.
Alicia de Hoghton married Willaim de Stanely, Esquire of Stanley, Storeton and Hooton. The first Lord Stanley lived forty or fifty years before William the Conqueror. He had an only daugter named Mabel who married Adam Audley, son of Lidulph Audley, who came with William the Conqueror. Their son Henry, in the right of his mother, became Lord of Stonely and Balterley. Adam Aduley gave Stonely to his Uncle who called himself Stanley. His wife was Joan Bamville, who learned that her parents were determined that she should marry contrary to her inclination. While her father was at a festive banquet, she stole sway, met William de Stanley. They rode across the country to Astbey Church, where they were married in the presence of two friends. From them descended Sir William Stanley, the tenth male heir.
