• Background Information. 829
William de Beauchamp had been zealous in his support of empress Maud, and was therefore dispossessed of the Castle of Worcester by King Stephen. This, and all his other estates and honors were restored by King Henry II. During the reign of King Henry II he was also made sheriff of Warwickshire (2 Henry II), sheriff of Gloucestershire (3 to 9 Henry II, inclusive), and sheriff of Herefordshire (from 8 to 16 Henry II inclusive). William married Maude Braose, the daughter of William Lord Braose, of Gower. Their son who succeeded him at his death was also named William de Beauchamp.

The Beauchamps were among those who came to England with William the Conqueror. Walter de Beauchamp or Bellocampo, a Norman, was granted the estates of Roger de Wygracestra and the shrievalty of Worcester, which Urso d'Abitot had held at the time of William I, whose daughter, Emeline, Walter married. Walter's son was William, who held the office of Dispensator to the King, and his great grandson, William de Beauchamp, married Isabella Mauduit, sister and heir of William Mauduit, Earl of Warwick.

William married Maud de Braose, daughter of William de Braose Lord Brecknock, Abergavenny. Baron of Braiose and Eve Marshall of Pembroke 829.,726 (Maud de Braose was born about 1226 in Breconshire, Wales and died before 23 Mar 1301 in Wales.)
