During his first time in New Mexico, around 1733 and some years following, old Diego Vásquez Borrego, first sired two natural sons, Francisco and Diego, both of whom lived in Bernalillo (Belén) and herded their father's flocks from the year 1745 (when he came to New Mexico "a second time") until his death in 1753.

Diego Borrego, natural son, married Francisca Gurulé, by whom he had a son, Juan Domingo, 4 Jul 1763.
