• Background Information. 169
Sir Geoffrey Dutton, eldest son of Adam Dutton, resided principally at Sutton. He obtained Aston, near Budworth, in which Arley lies. The name of the lady he married does not appear, but Alice, the daughter of John Lacy, constable of Chester, Baron of Halton, may have been his wife. This same Alice has also been given as one of the wifes of his father. The proof used to show that Geoffry was married to Alice is a family deed by John Lacy that gives the manor of Clifton to Geoffry Dutton.
