Tangwystl, daughter of Llywarch Goch, lord of Rhos Rhyfoniog and Anglesey, was the first wife* of Llywelyn ap Iorwerth, by whom he had Gruffydd ap Llywelyn, though Caradoc says he was base born. [Powel's Cardoc, p. 298; see White Book of Hergest; Polyd. Virfil, l. svi, p. 391] Upon her death, Llywelyn married Jone, the daughter of King John and sister of Henry III, and disinherited, or attemped to disinherit, Gruffydd, which caused great disturbance and wars; but Llewelyn, the son of Gruffydd, at last got the Principality.
