Antonio Otero, son of Pedro Otero and Juliana Alarí, was thirty-one when he enlisted as a soldier in 1813. He is most likely Antonio Rafael, born in 1775, since there are no other Oteros in New Mexico. He and his wife Lugarda Garcia are also known from the baptisms of their grandchildren.

One son, Francisco Antonio, who married Elena Aragón on 6 May 1823, had several children at whose baptisms Antonio Otero and Lugarda Garcia are given as paternal grandparents: Juana María, 24 Jun 1825; Manuel de la Trinidad, 28 Feb 1829; Manuel Antonio, 17 Oct 1840; and four others in between.

Another son was Miguel, married to Josefa Chaves. Miguel's parents are known in the same way, two of whose children were: José Gregorio, 19 May 1833, and José Andrés, 9 Dec 1835.

A third son, Juan, was married to Josefa Sánchez; Juan's wife and parents likewise known through the baptism of a son, José Margarito, 22 Feb 1841.

Old Antonio, his wife Lugardia Garcia still living, died on 30 Mar 1845.
