• Family Background. 947
Traditionally Ranulf was considered the father of the Shropshire Peverels who attended the Court and enjoyed the favors of King Henry I. There is no substantial foundation, and no one has been able to proved that Ranuf was their father.

The Peveral family consisted of several brothers or half-brothers, whose parentage is unknown, and whose very number is uncertain. Four of them were Hamo, William, Pagan and Robert, if there were four. If there were only three, then Pagan and Robert are the same person, just described in different documents by different names.
