Juan Bautisata de Anaza was the son of Juan Bautista de Anaza and María Rosa Becerra Nieto of Fronteras, Nueva Navarra, Nueva España. His paternal grandparents were Antonio de Anaza, a pharmacist, and Lucía de Sassoeta of Hernani, Guipuzcoa, España. His maternal grandparents were Antonio Becerra Nieto and Gregoria Gómez de Silva of Janos, Nueva España. His father, of the same name, was killed by Apaches 9 May 1740, when Juan Bautista was only three years of age.

Antonio had been an apprentice of Dr. Agustín Zabala, and he became good friends with the Agustín and his wife, Catalina de Sasoeta. Itis through this couple that Antonio met his wife, Lucía Sasoeta who was Catalina's cousin. Lucía's parents were Juanes de Sasoeta (died when Lucía was nine and her brother Nicolás was only two months old) and Josefa Barcaiztegui. Lucía and Antonio married on 8 Feb 1691, along with four other couples. Lucía was 32 years old at the time.

Lucía married Antonio de Anza, son of Juanes de Anza and Elena de Bula.1587 (Antonio de Anza was born in Jan 1666 in Hernani, Guipuzcoa, España 1587, baptized on 17 Jan 1666 in Hernani, Guipuzcoa, España 1587 and died in Hernani, Guipuzcoa, España.)
