Nicolás Mares, a soldier of Santa Fe, made his last will in 1766. His wife was Josefa de los Reyes de Vargas, to whom he had been married for thirty-two years. Their ten children were: Lorenzo, Manuel, Luis, Cristóbal, José, María de la Luz, Francisco Esteban, José Manuel, Juan Domingo, and Nicolás.
