Isabel, wife of Hugh de Meriet, was the daughter of Robert le Fitz Payn and his second wife Maud, one of the five sisters and coheirs of Robert Bardolf of Castle Carleton and Cameby, Co. Lincoln, who ob. in 1225 [Barling's Abbey Charters: Monas. VI. q15-8, & Fine Roll 9 H. III. m. 3] Isabel was sister of Robert le Lion or Lupus, who died possessed of Castle Carleton and came by it throgh his mother [Inq.p.m. 31 Hen. III. no. ?3]

Maud Bardolf and her husband Sir Robert Fitzpayn's daughter, Isabell was married to Sir Hugh de Meryet, who had by her Nicholas Meryet. Of Nicholas came John de Meryet, of John came John, and of John came the third John, the ward of Sir Adam de Welles.
