• Point of Interest. 148 • Dates & Events. 149 • Epitaths of family. 659 BODY OF IAMES PRES COTT HEE DYED THE 9 OF MAY 1704 AGED 10 AND 7 WEEKS YERE OLD The son of Jonas Prescott and Mary Loker, born 16 Mar 1684. This was the oldest epitath in the Old Groton Burying Ground. Jonas Prescott, a black smith chiselled the insription himself with one of his own tools. The people of Groton may have used headboards before this time, but in they would decay and disappear. Those that lasted in the graveyard were made of slate and were likely taken from the quarry in the adjoing town of Harvard, though a few were brought from England. Here Lyes Buried the Body of Jonas PRESCOTT Esq. Who Deceased December ye 31st, 1723 Aged 76 Years The son of John Prescott and Mary Platts (Gawkrogers), born at Lancaster, Jun 1648. Jonas married Mary Loker, daughter of John Loker and Mary Draper, on 14 Sep 1672 in Lancaster, Massachusetts.146 (Mary Loker was born on 28 Sep 1653 in Sudbury, Massachusetts 126,659 and died on 28 Oct 1735 in Groton.
