Kathern Swynford, Duchess of Lancester was born Katherine de Roet probably 25 Nov 1340. She was the daughter of Sir Payne de Roet, originally a Flemish herald from County of Hainault, later knighted.

Katherine became the third wife of John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster, and their descendants were the Beaufort family.
