There was an Inquisition upon the death of Margaret de Nevile, mother of Sir Robert, in 12 Edward II (1318-1319), when it was found that amongst her great possessions were a messuage of two bovates of land at Potterton. [Dodsworth M.S. 44] Margaret was the wife of Geoffrey de Nevile, a cadet of the Raby family and a Justice Itinerat for Pleas of the forest who died in 1285, and she was a daughter to heir of John Longvillers. [Coucher Book ob Kirstall Abbey, Thoresby Soc. Pub, vol. vii, pg. 50] It is possible that the land at Potterton was part of the extensive grant made by de Lascy, in whose fee it then was to de Longvillers, and that Margaret had inherited it from her father.

In 1341, Margaret's son Robert, was shown be the Survey to be holding the land. "Robert de Nevill, knight, holds the town of Podryngton by the service of one knight's fee, rendering by the year Id. And he owes suit of court for one messuage of 9 acres of land which Richard Cisson hold of him."

The possessions of Margaret de Nevile, mother of Sir Robert Nevil, descended though Robert, who was one of her younger sons, to another Margaret who married Thomas Beaufort, Duke of Exeter, a son of Johm of Gaunt. She died childress early in the reign of Henry VI, and her inheritance was divived between her aunts, Margaret, wife of Sir William Harrington, and Joan, Wife of Sir John Langton.

Robert de Neville was summoned to a great council to be held at Westminster, 16 Edward III. He was never again summoned to parliment.

Sir Thomas Christopher Banks in his Baronia Anglica Concentrata, Vol. I, p. 350 has a pedigree showing Robert as the second son of Geoffery Neville of Hornby and Margaret, daughter and heir of John de Longvillers, of Hornby. Robert Neville's son is also named Robert, as is grandson, Sir Robert Neville. This Robert had a son named Thomas who died during the life of his father Robert. He also had two daughters, Margaret who married Sir William Harrington, Knight of the Gartor; and Joan who was married to John de Langton.

Robert married Isabel de Byron, daughter of Robert de Byron and Unknown.
