Maud was the eldest daughter of William Marshal, Earl of Pembroke, hereditary master Marsahl of the Royal household, and Isabel, daughter and heir of Richard, second Earl of Pembroke. Maud, as senior coher of her brother Walter, late Earl of Pembroke, was allowed to take in Jul 1246, the office of Marshal. After Hugh Begod died, Maud Marshal married William de Warenne, Earl of Surrey, and styled herself Marshal of England, countess of Norfolk and Warenne.
