William de Warenne
, son and heir apparent to his father John de Warren, died during the life of his father. In 1276 he agreed that his father might at his death dispose of the Earl's lands in Norfolk. In 1285 he was knighted at Winchester. In the same year, he obtained quittance from the common summons in Essex, Buckshire and Norfolk. He married, probably in June 1285, Joan, daughter of Robert de Vere, fifth Earl of Oxford, by Alice, daughter and heir of Gilbert de Sanford. William died v.p. 15 Dec 1286, having attended a tournament at Croydon, where it is said, he was ambushed and cruelly slain by his rivals. His widow died on or before 23 Nov 1293, and was buried before the high altar at Lewes.
