John Dunham was a Leyden Separatist who more than likely arrived from Holland in Plymouth between 1628-1632.

John Dunham was a weaver. He owned land on which he grazed cattle and sheep. Upon his death, the inventory listed a loom weaving equipment, as well as cotton, sheep wool, and linen yarn.

• Family Background Information.
Since 2000, John Dunham's ancestory has been in question. It is believed that were errors in the Dunham genealogy that gave a ancestorial link from John Dunham back to the Zouches of England.

Genealogists no longer believe that John Dunham was not born in Scrooby, Nottinghamshire, but it more likely he was born in Clophill, Gedfordshire, England.

There is a probate record of Richard Duham of Langford, some seven miles from Clophill that supports Richard as John Dunham's father.

His son-in-law, Stephen [At]Wood, was among those mentioned in his will. The entry in the Plymouth Colony Records reads: 'John Dunham, Senr., of Plymouth, aged about fourscore yeares, died the 2cond of March, 1668. Hee was an approued seruant of God, and a vseful man in his place, being a deacon of the church of Christ att Plymouth."

John Duham was born circa 1589. He was eighty years old when he died in 1688/89. He was a Leiden Separatist who came to Plymouth between 1628 and 1632, probably with those who arrived from Holland in 1629 and 1630.

He was a deacon in the Plymouth Church. He first married, Susanna Kenny, who died in Holland, and second, Abigail Barlow, daughter of Thomas Barlow in Leiden on 22 Oct 1622. He had three children by his first with, John Humility and Thomas, and eight by his second wife, Samuel Abigail, Persis, Jonathan, Hannah, Joseph, Benajah and Daniel.

Johnathan married Abigail Barlow, daughter of Thomas Barlow and Unknown, on 22 Oct 1622 in Leiden, Holland.242 (Abigail Barlow was born in 1590-1600 in England and died after 1669 in Plymouth Colony, Massachusetts, British American Colonies 152.)
