Since 2000, John Dunham's ancestory has been in question. It is believed that were errors in the Dunham genealogy that gave a ancestorial link from John Dunham back to the Zouches of England.
Genealogists no longer believe that John Dunham was not born in Scrooby, Nottinghamshire, but it more likely he was born in Clophill, Gedfordshire, England.
There is a probate record of Richard Duham of Langford, some seven miles from Clophill that supports Richard as John Dunham's father.
