Alfonso was the son of Urraca de León and Raimundo III count of Burgundy. He married his first wife, Berenguela, daughter of Ramon Berenguer III, count of Barcelona. She died in 1140. Their children were:

Alfonso de Castillay León was the son of Urraca Queen of Castileand León and her first husband Raymond de Bourgogne. Alfonso's first wife was Bereguela de Barcelona,daughter of Ramón Berenguer III "el Grande." Alfonso's second wife was Ryksa of Silesia, daughter of Vladyslaw II Price of Krakow and Silesia and wife Agneso of Austria. Alfonso had children with mistress, Gontrodo Pérez, wife of Gutierre Sebastiániz and daughter of conde Pedro Díaz deValleand his wife María Ordóñez; and mistress Urraca Fernádez de Castro, widowof conde Rodrigo Martínez and daughter of Fernando García de Casto, señor de Hita y Uceda andhis second wife Estefania Armengol de Urgel.


Alfonso married Richilda of Silesia, daughter of Vladislaus II King of Poland & Duke of Crackow and Agnes of Babenberg, in Jul 1152. (Richilda of Silesia was born in Babenberg and died on 16 Jun 1185.)


Alfonso next married Berenguela Raimundo de Barcelona, daughter of Ramón III "el Grande" Berengar Conde de Barcelona y de Provenza and Dolça de Gévaudun comtess de Provence, in 1128 in Saldana. (Berenguela Raimundo de Barcelona died on 3 Feb 1148-1149 in Palencia, Castile-León, Spain and was buried in Cathedral of Santiago del Mayor, Santiago de Compostela.)
