Foulques III "Nerra" Comte d’Anjou

   Another name for Foulques was Fulk "the Black" Count of Anjou.

Fulk III, "the Black" of Maine, count of Anjou died in Jerusalem, 1 Apr 1040. ¹⁶⁰

Foulques's parentage is confirmed by a charter dated 1037 which announces the birth in 1007 of "Gaufridus Martellus…pater eius Fulcho…comes Andecavorum filius Gaufridi Fortissimi comitis qui cognominatus est Grisia Gonella" and records donations to Saint-Aubin d'Angers [Angers Saint-Aubin, Tome I, 1, p. 1]. Foulques III married, as his first wife, Elizabeth de Vendôme, daughter of Bouchard [I] "le Vénérable" Comte de Vendôme & his wife Elisabeth [de Corbeil]. Her parentage and marriage are confirmed by a charter dated to (abt. 1032) which records that Foulques "Nerra" Comte d´Anjou transmitted "honor Vindocinensis" to his only daughter by "sororem defuncti pontificis", who had four sons of whom "primogenitum…Burchardum" [Vendôme La Trinité, Tome I, VI, p. 14] Foulques's second wife was name Hildegard, who is of unknowned parents.

Foulques married Hildegarde. (Hildegarde died on 1 Apr 1046 in Jerusalem, Palestine and was buried in Jerusalem, Church of the Holy Sepulchre.)

Foulques next married Elisabeth de Vendôme, daughter of Bouchard de Vendôme and Elizabeth. (Elisabeth de Vendôme was born after 958 and died in Dec 998 in Angers.)
