Robert de Harcourt, surnamed "the Strong," built the castle of Harcourt. He was, with his elder brother Errand, was with William Duke of Normandy in his expedition to England, A.D. 1066. Robert married Colede d'Argouges, and by her had seven sons:

William, son and heir

Richard de Harcourt, who founded the commandery of St. Stephen at Reneville, became a Knight Templar, Grand Prior of France, and was buried at St. Stephen's.

Philip de Harcourt, who was Dean of Lincoln, Archdeacon of York, nominated to the bishopric of Salisbury, and appointed bishop of Bayeux, where he was buried A.D. 1163.
