Alberto Azzo, son of Alberto Azzo, conte di Luni, succeeded his father as conte di Luni. His first wife was Kunigunde von Altdorf, daughter of Welf Graf von Altdorf and his wife Imtrud im Moselgau. Alberto's second wife was Gersende du Maine, daughter of Herbert I, comté de Maine. Alberto and his first wife, Kinigunde, were the parents of Welf I, Duke of Bavaria.
