José Mares, who did not know who his parents were, married Ana Rodríguez, fifteen-year-old daughter of Lorenzo Rodríguez and Teresa López Olguín, in 1716. They had at least two sons, Nicolás and José, who was evidently the "José Julian," twenty-five years old, who enlisted as a soldier in 1746.
