Diego was not involved in the affairs of the court of Fernando I, but there is one known document that shows him in the company of Fernando I. He was was witness to a charter, a private donation confirmed by King Ferdinand on 29 October 1047 in Cardeña, Córdoba Province, Andalucía, Spain.

He captured the castles of Ubierna, Urbel and La Piedra from Navarre, probably after 1054. ~Historia Roderici, Chapter 3, p. 100
He married doña TERESA Rodríguez, daughter of don RODRIGO Álvarez & his wife doña Teresa Núñez. ~Salazar y Acha p. 410, Reilly (1988) Chapter 3, p. 38.
Another possibility is that Teresa was the daughter of Nuño Alfonso de Amaya (illegitimate son of Alfonso V King of León & his mistress) & Gontroda de Castro. ~ Salazar y Acha p. 410.
According to Salazar y Acha, Teresa, mother of Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar "El Cid Campeador") was the daughter of don Rodrigo Alvárez[105], which is also the position taken by Reilly. ~Reilly (1988) Chapter 3, p. 38.
Diego married Teresa Rodríguez, daughter of Rodrigo Álvarez Conde en Asturias and Teresa Núñez, in 1058.217 (Teresa Rodríguez was born about 1023 217 and died before 1058 217.)
