Charles married Reine Ermentrude de Orléans, daughter of Comte Eudes Comte de Orléans and Engeltrude Comtesse de Orléans, in Dec 842. (Reine Ermentrude de Orléans was born about 825 in Orléans, France and died on 6 Oct 869 in St. Denis, Paris, France.)

After the death of his half brother, Pepin, Charles the Bald succeeded to the throne of France in 840. He married Hermentrude, daughter of Eudes (Odo), the count of Orleans.
They had a daughter named Judith, who married Æthelwulf, king of Wessex, and then later eloped with Baldwin I.
